Canadian music market scores positive results in digital sales area on year-on-year comparison. Digital singles scored 116.1 million sales in 2013 which is a 2% increase comparing to 2012, when sales were 114.3 million. Digital albums scored 9% increase with 11.4 million sales in 2013. The report comes shortly after it was announced that US digital market scored decrease in 2013 for the first time.
In physical sales, however, Canadian music market scored a decrease selling 17.6 million copies in 2013 which is a 15% decrease compared to 2012 (20.6 million).
Universal Music Group is the leader for catalogue and current titles with 46.2% share, Sony Music Entertainment is second with 22.3%, Warner Music Group is third with 13.5% while independent record label make 18% of the sales.
