The Music Network reports that Australian digital market has suffered a significant decline right at the beginning of 2014. Since this time last year, Australian market has been under the influence of streaming services and with the latest launch of Beats streaming service the effect is visible.
Digital sales in the third week of January have suffered 11.9% decrease in digital singles and 13.3% drop in digital albums, a very different situation compared to 2013. In January 2013, digital albums had an 18.1% increase compared to the same period of 2012.
This adds fuel to discussions about the future of the music market and positive or destructive influence streaming service will have in it. If overall music market revenue doesn't drop, is it really important how it's allocated between digital sales and streaming services?
